MacBook Air and 14″ MacBook Pro can share marketing chip names yet land in different MacDiff chip bins — especially once Pro/Max SKUs enter. This guide uses MacDiff CPU/GPU indices (M1 Air = 100). It does not fully capture sustained thermals, brightness, or ports.
Latest MacBook Air in the catalog is the MacBook Air 13″ (2026), base config M5 (10-CPU/8-GPU) — CPU 203 / GPU 220. Latest matching MacBook Pro is the MacBook Pro 14″ (2026), base config M5 Pro (15-CPU/16-GPU) — CPU 300 / GPU 411.
On the M1 Air = 100 scale the MacBook Air base is ×2.03 CPU and ×2.20 GPU; the MacBook Pro base is ×3.00 CPU and ×4.11 GPU. Pro/Max bins on the Pro or Studio side pull GPU much further ahead than CPU.
Fans, HDMI/SD cards, ProMotion, and long export thermals are outside MacDiff. When the index ties, spend the budget on memory/storage or Pro features instead of assuming a higher MacDiff number.
